Aird Bhreacain - (The) high speckled hill or (the) high hill (of) broken material. 6840 0035

Aird Bhreacain seascape No. 4 – A dramatic view from the northwest while sailing through the Corrievreckan as the slack tide begins to give way, as evidenced by the warning from the ripping wave as it slashes past an unnamed skerry. The aird with its extensive system of caves is clearly evident in the centre of this image. These caves were used extensively up until the middle 19th century, with use by fisherman well into the 20th century. Eilean Beag is barely visible through the sea mist in this image taken during the cool, wet summer of 2002. Left of the aird in the distance is Maol nan Damh.
