Glen Trosdale -
Glen of the meadow of the serious men (?) or of the cod
fishers;
Mcarthur (1986) postulates that placename derives from Norse as
follows,
"tross rubbish, leaves, seaweed" plus "dalr" which is
dale, or "hross", which
is Norse for horse, with the 't' sound from "the" (this would be aspirated,
thus "t-hrossdalr" - author's note). 6855 9955

Glen Trosdale No. 1 – In this view from the south atop Beinn Bhioraig, Eilean Mór is just visible above the Aird Bhreacain while the Isle of Mull lies on the horizon. The landscape of Glen Trosdale may be the only remaining portion of Jura’s topography that retains many of the characteristics that would have been seen during the island’s Gaelic period.
