Port Gill a’ Ghardein seascape No. 1 – A view from the northeast just on the final approach into the Corrievreckan with the ancient port being dead centre in the image alongside the sunlit rocks.  The translated place name could refer to the fact that even during the slack tide period within the Corrievreckan, a strong set of arms was needed to cross to the adjacent Isle of Scarba within the short period of time allowed by the calmer waters.  Ebb tide varies with the season, but a conservative average is 25 minutes within the Corrievreckan.
